This is fantastic!!

Love, love, LOVE her eyes! Plus it makes me wish we'd gotten a white pumpkin this year.

OMG YES

Reminds me a terrible nightmare I had that turned into an awesome dream where I could fly and go invisible. But that's beside the point.. This is fucking awesome. I love the colours - they seem so bloody evil! Well done!

Kamikaye responds:

Oh that must have been an astonishing experience !

Musculature epicness!

This is freakin' great - I love the hunched body! I'd like to see what it would look like with the head flipped horizontally.. possibly it would be more creepy? Not sure. Really, really like this. More now, thx!

Cool glossy effect :)

The glossy effect on the glass-like objects look really good.

I'd liek to see more fine detail and sharper lines tightening in towards the focal point of the figure. Currently unsure whether that should be the hand in the immediate foreground of the centre/head area of the figure.

Overall really cool picture! Great job ^_^

Awesome style!

I really like your figures. It's clear you know how to draw accurate anatomy and have developed your stylized figures based on that foundation - they look great!

I think you've done an excellent job choosing your palette. Honestly I can't work in watercolours and I envy anyone with patience and skill enough to paint with them - especially for colouring ink drawings. I've rage quit hard so many times. Kudos on skillfully practicing traditional media!

More plz! ^_^

Excellent work!!

This has got to be one of the sexiest pieces of artwork I've seen in the portal so far. Absolutely stunning.

thank you

THIS IS A...

NICE PHOTO BUT PHOTOS AREN'T ALLOWED HERPA DERPA

But seriously, these are really well painted. Acrylic can be really challenging because it dries so quickly. Did you use any medium to help extend drying time?

Also, who is this puzzle-piece portrait of? It's very impressive for you to be doing this level of artwork at A-level. You'll be well ahead of your peers when you move on to foundation/BA.

Lockwoodland responds:

Thanks for the comment, you lovely sir and/or madam.

Didn't use anything to make it dry quicker, just plain old acrylic. This was done two years ago now, but I haven't gone on to do art at university - it's become more of a hobby.

Amazing

Ornery, you mad bastard. This is fantastic. The details in the eyes and nose are excellent - i dunno how you do this in dry media.

Awesome details!

Hey costume is amazing, I love the texture and detail that go into it. If you made that belt in real life, it would be a dangerously sexy accessory.

I love the colours all around, it feels very harmonious; but the background does confuse me a little as it goes from what appears to be space/star scape to blurred electrical field. I'm not complaining, but it did kind of make me ask why, and therefore distracted slightly from the figure. Perhaps it is a cloth divider or something in a room (?), as there also appears to be a window reflecting light in the top left.

I'm not totally convinced that the metal of her armour would split when rising at the crater from stopping bullets, but then again I don't know what kind of weapons she's being shot with.. for all I know they aren't your typical bullets. I've seen a lot of metal plates that have either been shot through and the metal is therefore carried to tear inwards with the projectile as it passes, or is stopped by the plate and creates a crater as you seem to have here, but not split at the edges. For the looks of things she was a very lucky girl. Haha. I'm not trying to nit-pick, honestly, I'm no expert in ballistics - it's just something that crossed my mind. It looks cool, either way.

Ok, here's the crunch for me - perspective. Overall I've enjoyed this image as a whole, but when I notice the weapon/staff she's holding, I have to say, I am surprised you let this slip. You're clearly very talented and I wonder whether you were just too close and didn't take a moment to stand back and work out the angles it would take to achieve a clear perspective from a blurred edge of the staff head being close to viewers' sight, following a straight and accurate length along her pose as she held it over her shoulders. The quickest fix would be to cut the head of the staff out and place it slightly higher and to the right. Maybe turning the nose up very slightly to maintain the staff's angle. The blurring seems excessive and I'm not sure if that is from design (maybe the staff head weapon vibrates? or emits an electrical field?) but the entire head seems overly blurred and I wonder whether you were looking to achieve something that seems more head on. If so, the length of the staff is at the wrong angle.

The way I usually try and keep this from happening (and even I don't manage all the time, first or even second go round) is to make straight lines heading from the middle of the furthest point of the object, bringing the end to the middle of the closest point of the object. If it is something like a rod or staff this is really easy to do. You may have to use trial and error to figure out the diameter difference at the furthest point to the closest, but it will make it a lot easier to create the right angle and perspective with poses like this.

Anyways, I really like it, now I am going to check out the rest of your stuff! ^_^

These thoughts and opinions are my own and not that of my employer.
